Could a loan move revive Charly Alcaraz’s Everton career? Racing Club interested

  • Charly Alcaraz has started just 6 games this season
  • The midfielder is linked with a loan move to Racing
  • Alcaraz has six goals and six assists in his Premier League career

Charly Alcaraz’s Everton career has not gone as planned. The Argentine midfielder signed permanently for €15m last summer after initially joining on loan from Flamengo in February 2025. He has a contract running until June 2027. But this season has been difficult.

Alcaraz made 21 appearances, contributing just one goal and one assist. He started only six of those games, playing 730 minutes. Injuries and poor form have kept him out of David Moyes’ plans for much of the season.

Now, according to Argentine outlet DSports Radio, Racing Club de Avellaneda are monitoring a potential loan deal for the 23-year-old. No advanced talks exist between the clubs as yet. But the interest is there. And a move back to a familiar environment could be exactly what Alcaraz needs.

Why Charly Alcaraz has struggled at Everton

Alcaraz previously spent time at Racing Club between 2017 and 2023, making 83 senior appearances. A return on loan would give him regular football, something he has not had at Everton.

This season, Everton had a decent campaign by recent standards. They spent most of the year in the top half and were in the European conversation for a long time, but late disappointing results made them miss Europe altogether. But Alcaraz could not break into the team. Injuries played a part. Form played a part.

And by the end of the season, Merlin Rohl had found his rhythm on the right wing, starting three games in a row and scoring against Sunderland. With Rohl now looking like a useful option, Everton may need to move other midfielders on. Alcaraz could prove to be the fall guy.

In his Premier League career overall, Alcaraz has appeared in 54 matches, with six goals and six assists. Not terrible numbers. But at Everton this season, he simply did not get enough minutes to build momentum. Last season, he played a combined 21 Premier League and Carioca Série A games between Everton (20) and Flamengo (1), scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Why a loan makes sense

A loan move to Racing Club would allow Alcaraz to play regularly, regain the lost confidence and show his quality consistently.

He is only 23. His career is not over. But sitting on the bench at Everton is helping no one. Racing Club know him well from their previous time together and have seen what he can do. If he gets back to his best, Everton could either welcome him back next season or sell him for a reasonable fee.

There are no advanced talks yet for the loan move. But the interest is there.

For Alcaraz, a fresh start might be the best thing. For Everton, clearing space in midfield while allowing a player to develop elsewhere is reasonable. The summer will clear the air around Alcaraz’s situation but a loan move back to Argentina could be the revival he desperately needs.

matchday.
