Celtic legend Pat Bonner has claimed that an Everton scout was left raving about both Odsonne Edouard and Callum McGregor at the weekend.
Talking to BBC Sportsound, as transcribed by HITC, Bonner claimed a scout for the Toffees was in attendance during Celtic’s 3-1 home win against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
Both striker Edouard and attacking midfielder McGregor started for Neil Lennon’s side, with the former getting on the scoresheet, as the latter wore the captain’s armband for the Hoops.
Talking to Sportsound following the game, Bonner claimed to have had a conversation with the Everton scout, who was waxing lyrical about the duo.
I was talking to one of the scouts from Everton here today.
He is obviously up here and he was talking so highly about McGregor and the likes of Edouard and those kind of players. And they are attracting the attention of the big clubs.
Edouard has now registered an incredible 20 goals and 10 assists in 25 SPL games, while McGregor has seven goals and seven assists in 28 league appearances.
So would either of the duo prove acceptable transfer targets in the summer?
Edouard has undeniably earned the opportunity to play in the Premier League, although whether he could transition from the Scottish league system is a different question. He could have plenty of interested parties in the summer, such has his form been impressive this season, and with Everton having a relatively well-stocked group of strikers, he could prove to be an unnecessary expense.
McGregor on the other hand could be just what Everton need. The Toffees are lacking an element of creativity in their midfield group, and they also need someone who can do the engine work well, and with McGregor having played in a defensive, advanced and central role this season, the Scotland international may have the diversity to make him a valuable utility player for the Blues.
The 26-year wouldn’t likely demand a huge fee from Celtic, with Transfermarkt valuing him at just £4.5million, but he could be an underrated acquisition if a move was to pan out.
