Everton have rejected a bid from Chelsea for John Stones, according to Sky Sports.
The promising 21-year-old defender has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, and now it has emerged that Premier League champions Chelsea have had a bid in the region of £20 million rejected for the young England international.
Stones, who is currently in Singapore preparing for Everton’s Barclays Asia Trophy final against Arsenal, yesterday reaffirmed his desire to stay at the Goodison club for the foreseeable future.
“I am very happy to be at Everton for the future.
“My aim right now is to try and nail down a regular spot in this Everton team and hopefully that will take care of playing for England.
“I have to keep learning off the likes of Phil Jagielka and keep progressing at this club.”
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will indeed return with an improved offer for England’s brightest defensive prospect, but given the nature of the current market, this is unlikely to be the end of any interest in the talented former Barnsley player.
How much is Stones worth? Should Everton keep the defender at all costs? Send us your thoughts @TheToffeeTalk
