With Sam Allardyce’s future still uncertain, Everton have suffered somewhat of setback in their chase for Marco Silva, as Benfica have entered the race to sign him.
The Mirror have reported that the Portuguese giants want Silva to replace Rui Vitoria, after his side were beaten to the league title by Porto. Vitoria won the Primeira Liga in his first two seasons at Benfica, but is said to be under pressure after finishing second, and seven points off the pace.
The Toffees have been chasing Silva for a while now, as they initially wanted to bring him in when they dismissed former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.

Silva could be tempted by the chance to return to his native Portugal, having previously managed Sporting CP and Estoril.
However, Everton’s majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, wants the former Watford boss to replace Allardyce, who has been on the receiving end of some stick from fans, despite finishing eighth in the Premier League.
