Ben Godfrey has discussed life at Everton, his professional career to date and his hopes for the future at Goodison Park – and revealed some exciting beliefs about the Toffees.
The former Norwich centre-back joined on the summer transfer window deadline day last October for a reported fee of £24.75m.
The York-born 23-year-old has already made 11 league appearances this season and has been deployed as a full-back on both flanks at varying points.
His deployment in unfamiliar roles is certainly a point of note, but his revelations about the hopes for the club should get diehard Evertonians excited.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Godfrey touched upon where he sees the club going, but he also took time to open up on the most exciting aspects of signing for the Toffees:
The size of the Club was something that really excited me. The fanbase is massive, so for me to experience that is something I could never turn down.
When you’re a young kid, you want to grow up to play for one of the biggest clubs.
To have this opportunity is amazing. To play for a club of this size is something I’ve dreamt about since I was a young boy. It’s big for me.
Speaking on the challenges of featuring at different senior levels, Godfrey revealed an open mindset:
Moving from York to Norwich – from a League Two team to a Premier League club – was a massive jump. I was only 18 and it took me time to get up to speed with it.
That’s why I went on loan to Shrewsbury. You’ve got to be open to learning. Then, I played a lot of Championship and Premier League football for Norwich, which meant the step to Everton wasn’t as big of a jump.
But you’ve got world-class players here – and you see bits of magic from the likes of James Rodriguez and you think ‘Wow, I’ve never seen that before’. So, there is still a step up but it’s not as big as what I’ve experienced in the past.

His whole interview is laced with an optimism which is anything but unfounded. Enamoured with the quality at the club, recent form suggests that Ancelotti knows how to get the best out of certain players. Fans should undoubtedly match Godfrey’s optimism.
