Monday saw Everton run out a 0-0 draw with Brighton in the Premier League.
The game presented a real chance for the club to climb there way up the table and closer to those European football spots.
However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side failed to react to the challenge and now sits one point behind their next opponent Tottenham.
Their performance was so bad that even the BBC’s Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty was far from complementary on Twitter.
McNulty said the Toffees’ stalemate was due to a lack of urgency and that injuries shouldn’t take away from the players on the pitch…
It is hard to disagree with McNulty when you see how poor Everton have been at times this season.
Of course, it doesn’t help to have injuries to so many of your first-team squad but that shouldn’t distract from the players on the pitch.
Whether they are regular first-team players or not, they should be performing to the standards expected of them.
The squad looked out of confidence and out of ideas against Graham Potters side.
In fact, the game boasted one of the worst xG’s from any Premier League game this season – something not to be proud of.
Friday will see a real test for Ancelotti’s squad with a crunch game against Tottenham Hotspur.
A win against Spurs will see the Blues climb to seventh, one point off of city rivals Liverpool.
