Romelu Lukaku has already been described as the “complete” package by manager Roberto Martinez but Gareth Barry believes the Catalonian boss is the ideal man to keep getting the best out of Lukaku.
The Club record signing has netted 11 goals already this season and on Saturday he became only the fifth player to reach 50 goals in the Premier League before his 23rd birthday.
Lukaku joins Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo in reaching the 50 goal landmark, with his brace against Villa taking him to 51 goals from 125 Premier League appearances.
Teammate Barry, who captained the Blues again against Aston Villa in the absence of Phil Jagielka, says the Belgian can fulfil his potential under the stewardship of Martinez.
In terms of Rom’s age, he is going to be right up there at the top of the strikers I’ve played with.
Because of how long he’s been around and because of how big and strong he is, people forget his age.
He is still learning and under the manager here, his standards and performances are going to keep going up.
Like any striker, it is all about confidence. He had a strong pre-season and hit the ground running.
Barry is now intent on maintaining the teams momentum heading into the busy festive period by extending their unbeaten run against Bournemouth next weekend.
But the midfielder says the Blues can not afford to take the trip down to Dean Court lightly, with recent signs suggesting that Eddie Howe’s newly-promoted side are adapting to life in the top flight.
Like many of the teams that come up, they start well and then find their level and at the moment they are grinding results out rather than playing the football that they were used to last season,
We’ve got to go there with confidence and keep this undefeated run going.
But we have got to expect a tough game because they can cause any teams problems at home.
