Andros Townsend has resumed a talkSPORT punditry role, with the Everton winger expressing the excitement within the Everton squad following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The legendary Portuguese striker returned to former club Manchester United, with the club formally confirming his arrival on an initial two-year deal on deadline day from Juventus.
Townsend, who undertook a punditry role with talkSPORT before his Everton arrival over the summer, took to the airwaves to comment on the arrival.
As it happens, it is not only some supporters relishing the arrival of Ronaldo. Townsend commented on the Everton squad and their excitement surrounding the acquisition:
“I think everyone is a little bit giddy,” Townsend said.
“My era growing up 15, 16, 17 was Ronaldo’s prime at Manchester United, scoring all those goals, inventing a new way to kick a ball.
“He was our idol growing up. It’s amazing for me to hopefully share the pitch with him.”
Townsend also commented on the fast-moving saga surrounding the deal.
At one point, the prolific marksman looked destined to join Manchester City, only for a late U-turn to culminate with a return to his former side.
“I think we were travelling for an away game and we heard the news of Ronaldo to Man City,” Townsend explained.
“So obviously we were discussing everything that goes with that and then we turned on our phones, and bang, the news has broke that he’s signed for Man United.
“It was literally all we were speaking about.”

Townsend’s tale is an all-too human reminder of how players are enthralled in the drama of football and the transfer market as much as fans.
As competitive athletes at the highest level, it is encouraging to hear of the Everton squad being fired up and enthused by the prospect of challenging themselves against a household name of modern football.
