Ancelotti labels Napoli’s decision to sack him as the “right” decision

Carlo Ancelotti has defended Napoli’s decision to sack him in December, claiming that the Partenopei’s results weren’t good enough.

The Italian, who was replaced by compatriot Gennaro Gattuso, was removed from his position as manager in mid-December, joining Everton as their new boss shortly afterwards.

However, it was reported by Football Italia in January that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had regretted sacking the manager, wishing he was back at the San Paolo.

Ancelotti claims he made the right decision, though. Talking to Rai Uni (via Mail Online), he said:

The decision was made in agreement and it was the right one.

I am better, and Napoli are better.

Napoli was a wonderful experience, I met players and people who were working with me. The city remains there and waits for me to have my holidays there.

Things are going well (at Everton).

I didn’t need to be regenerated, I felt fine in Naples too. In football you are judged by the results and they weren’t at the squad’s level.

With Ancelotti admitting that Napoli made the right decision to sack him, it speaks to his character that he is able to honestly assess his shortcomings in Italy.

We feel many other managers would have defended their ability, and suggested that they could have turned things around, but Ancelotti is honest with himself.

The Italian, we feel, has done a terrific job since he took over at Goodison Park, and he has done more than improve the club’s results on the pitch, he has also portrayed himself well off the pitch, which has only endeared himself to the fan base more.

17 points in eight games on the pitch, and comments about his Europa League ambitions off of it have set Ancelotti up with the best platform to succeed at Everton.

Should he be backed adequately in the transfer market in the summer to make the signings that he wants, he could really revolutionise the Toffees as they look to move into their new stadium.
