Allardyce: McCarthy could make pre season return

Sam Allardyce has revealed that midfielder James McCarthy could make a return to the team in the pre season, as reported by the Official Everton website.

McCarthy suffered a double leg break at Goodison Park in January at a game against West Brom when he went in for a challenge with Salomon Rondon.

At the time he had only recently returned from another injury this time, a hamstring one which has seen his season ended as a result.

The 27-year-old has this week returned to the clubs training ground as he steps up his rehab as he looks to be a return from injury.

He has always been a key player for the club but has been struck with a bad run of injuries which he will hope to put behind him once he returns from this one.

Allardyce spoke about the situation:

“It is down to the specialist and them saying if and when James can start moving forward,”

“The specialist will guide us on how far we can go and with a bit of luck we can look forward to James starting the next pre-season with us.

“He has had some time back at home. He will probably rejoin us in the next few days on a regular basis to start getting some mobility into his ankle, particularly because it has been in a set position for such a long time.”

He signed for the club four-and-a-half years ago from Wigan Athletic and has since gone onto make 132 appearances for the Toffees.
