Everton’s next Premier League outing sees them travel to north London to take on Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Their previous game saw them relinquish a 1-0 lead over Manchester United by losing 2-1 at Goodison Park on Sunday night after Alex Iwobi’s opener was cancelled out by goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In addition to this disappointing result, the Merseyside club have been dealt another blow which could have an impact on their upcoming clash against Antonio Conte’s side.
Gordon suspended for Spurs clash
In an article for the Liverpool Echo, Chris Beesley shared the news that Toffees winger Anthony Gordon will be unavailable for the visit to Tottenham on Saturday evening through suspension, as he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the defeat against United.
To highlight how much of a blow this will be for Everton, the Englishman has landed more shots on target in the league this season (13) than any other Toffees player. In addition, only Nathan Patterson (13) has won more tackles than Gordon (10), who has also recorded a greater quantity of successful pressures (55) than any other player at the club.
This shows how important the winger is for Everton both in and out of possession, leaving no wonder as to why he has been hailed as “different class” by team-mate James Tarkowski.
Gordon will be missed
Bearing in mind how only four other teams have taken more shots than Tottenham (123) in the Premier League this season, this highlights how crucial Gordon’s defensive talent would have been for Lampard and Everton had he been available for the match this Saturday.
However, with Everton (147) and Nottingham Forest (146) being the only clubs in the division to have faced more shots than Spurs (141), this could have been a match where the 21-year-old’s prowess in the final third may have caused concern for Conte’s side.
Alas, Lampard will need to ensure that Everton have enough to make it a tough evening for Tottenham without Gordon’s presence to call upon.
