Everton are back in action this weekend with a Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday night.
Frank Lampard’s side have the chance to secure a third successive league win after beating West Ham United and Southampton in their two previous outings.
In terms of what the Everton team could look like for Sunday’s showdown at Goodison Park, one man who we feel Lampard should include in his starting XI is Anthony Gordon.
After starting Everton’s seven opening league games of the season, the winger came on as a substitute in the second half of the 2-1 win over Southampton last weekend.
Across his league appearances this term, the 21-year-old has had more shots on target (13) than any other player at the club, showing how much of a goal threat he can provide for the Toffees.
Gordon also has the second highest number of progressive carries (31), carries which have entered the final third of the pitch (10) and carries which have entered the 18-yard box, which highlights just how capable he is of taking the ball into attacking areas.
This all illustrates just how much of a problem he could be for United’s midfielders and defenders to handle if he starts on Sunday.
Having also been praised by David Unsworth for his “unbelievable” pace, this too is a factor in the £10k-per-week forward’s game which could cause issues for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Bearing in mind how the Red Devils have conceded eight goals in their two games this week, whereas Everton have only let in one across their previous three league outings, this is a match where the home side will surely be thinking they can plunder a few goals.
Taking all this into account, putting Gordon back in the starting XI and giving him the chance to cause problems for United’s defence should be one of the easiest decisions for Lampard to make in the lead-up to this game.
