Everton saw several players move out of the club since the end of their previous Premier League season.
Specifically, the Merseyside club saw players leave on free transfers such as Cenk Tosun and Jonjoe Kenny, as well as some leaving on loan deals such as Andre Gomes, Dele Alli and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
Looking ahead to the future, one figure in Frank Lampard’s squad that we feel the club and the manager should look to move out is Tom Davies.
As a product of Everton’s youth system, the midfielder has made 164 senior appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals and eight assists along the way.
Back in November last year, the £25k-per-week Englishman picked up a knee injury that kept him out of action until June.
Even when he did get a chance to play, he didn’t do much to prove why he deserves to be a regular first-team figure for the club as his performances last season earned him a rather uninspiring overall rating of 6.22/10, making him one of the lowest-rated Everton player that started more than one league game according to WhoScored.
Despite appearing in five of Everton’s six league games in this campaign, the 24-year-old has still not been able to show Lampard that he’s good enough to play there long-term.
For example, with 103 passes attempted, only 77 of them were accurate, leaving 10 other Toffees players with a higher passing accuracy percentage than Davies (74.8%), who has been labelled as an “extremely poor” player in the past by Lee McClean.
Then from an attacking point of view, having made five attempts at goal, none of them have been on target.
Bearing in mind how the Goodison Park outfit brought in two young midfielders over the summer in the shape of Amadou Onana and James Garner, this suggests that those are two players they see as long-term options for them, rather than Davies.
With all of that in mind and the fact that his current contract is set to expire in the summer, we feel that it should be one of Lampard’s priorities to get the midfielder out of the club whenever possible.
