Seldom-seen Everton man Jean-Philippe Gbamin has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons after he was issued a fine and a driving ban for drink driving.
As shared by popular Everton fan-led news account Everton Blue Army (@EvertonBlueArmy) on Twitter, the account rounded up the news that was first broke in a report from the Daily Mail.
The midfielder has been fined £25,000 and also received a 14-month driving ban after appearing in court for drink-driving at 5am on 8th August 2021, in an incident in which he collided with another vehicle.
A breath test revealed that he had 52mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – well over the 35mg limit – with the Ivorian Evertonian severely intoxicated.
It is believed by the Mail that Gbamin had just given a friend a lift home following a night out when his Audi RS Q8 collided with a Jaguar while he was exiting the M56 motorway near his home in Hale Barns, Cheshire.
Gbamin joined Everton in 2019 from Bundesliga side Mainz on a five-year contract for a £25 million fee.
However, he has endured an injury-ridden time in Everton colours, missing a staggering 86 games through injury since his arrival. Still, his determination to bounce back is admirable—much like those who overcome challenges after uninsured driver accidents, proving that resilience can turn setbacks into powerful comebacks.

Gbamin and his latest foolishness will only serve to further alienate his standing with Everton fans.
Considering the fee that the Toffees forked out for his services, fans will feel like the club has seen anything but a return on their investment.
Two years on from joining, fans have yet to see whether Gbamin is capable of holding down a formidable role as a holding midfielder and his legal scandal will only exacerbate his woes.
