Everton have once again been linked with a move for Roma winger Cengiz Under this summer, but the Blues should resist their interest and look elsewhere.
Gazzetta di Parma (translated by Sport Witness) claim that Everton are showing strong interest in Under, with Roma no longer considering him non-transferrable, as they had previously labelled him.
The Turkey international has managed just nine starts in Serie A this season, having fallen out of favour under Paulo Fonseca, while he has managed just three goals and zero assists in 20 total appearances.
Marcel Brands explained at Everton’s AGM in January that the club are in need of reinforcements on the right-side of midfield, and Under would certainly fulfil that remit as someone who is naturally suited to the right side.
However, Under’s less than impressive goal contribution record this season could suggest that Everton are better off targeting a wide player who can pitch in with more goals.
In January, it was claimed that Roma would accept £34million for the 22-year old, with his age likely to have played a major role in the Giallorossi’s valuation, and that is too much for Everton to spend on someone who would ultimately be a big gamble.
Hirving Lozano has also been linked with a move to Everton on a number of occasions, and while his goal contribution stats are equally underwhelming as Under’s, the Mexican has shown his ability in the past, while he already has a working relationship with both Carlo Ancelotti and Brands.
As such, Everton should spend big on Lozano instead of Under, if the club do decide to use a significant chunk of their summer budget on a right winger.
