Everton are interested in signing Torino striker Andre Belotti in a whopping summer transfer, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, in what sounds like a deal that doesn’t make an awful lot of sense.
The Italian outlet claim that the Toffees are considering a €60million bid for the 26-year old forward, as they look to beat heavy Serie A competition from Napoli, Inter Milan and Roma.
Belotti has scored 15 times in 31 games for the Turin outfit this season, and has frequently been regarded as one of the best strikers in Italy, which could have led to the Toffees turning their attention towards the Italy international.
However, a deal for Belotti doesn’t appear to make much sense for the Blues, who could be better off spending their limited resources elsewhere this summer.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean currently battling it out for a starting position up front for Everton, the Blues don’t need to splash major money on another forward option, not unless one of the trio are to be shifted during the close season.
Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign a midfielder this summer and Marcel Brands has identified right-wing as a position in need of strengthening, while the club’s defensive shortcomings are clear to see, meaning resources are first needed in other areas before bringing in further forward options.
If the Toffees fail to qualify for the Europa League this season, which is a very real possibility, then the club could be better off promoting a youth player as the club’s fourth striking option, such as Ellis Simms or Fraser Hornby.
Unless the club decide to move Richarlison to play permanently in a wide position, we feel as if another striker simply isn’t needed, and for such a high fee, a prospective deal should be a non-starter.
