Everton are keeping tabs on Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly’s situation, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Toffees have been linked with the Senegal sentinel in the past, with reports citing the club’s interest emerging almost immediately after Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as Everton manager.
Now Gazzetta (as translated by Sport Witness) claim that Everton are keeping a watchful eye on his situation, with some poor performances seemingly having led to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis lowering his transfer demands.
Sport Witness‘ report claims that Manchester United had a €100million offer rejected last year, although the 28-year would likely cost less now, with form and injuries bringing his valuation down.
It is no secret that we will likely attempt to sign a centre-back in the summer, with the club currently only possessing three senior options, but a move for Koulibaly doesn’t sit quite right with me.
We had previously made an offer of around £60million for Koulibaly in 2016, an offer which De Laurentiis promptly turned down, and since then the centre-back has only gotten better and become more noticeable in world football.
Should the Blues enter a bidding war, it could become a fruitless task, with us probably being unlable to keep up with the big spenders in the transfer market after announcing record financial losses in January.
If we do want to make a big splash in the transfer market, and I’m not entirely sure that we’re in the position to do that, then it would be better to see the club pursue a big-money midfielder or wide player, someone who can improve the club’s creative and goal return.
