So, today’s a weird one. Everton have two sixty minute games against Sevilla (11am) and Mainz (2pm).
I assume there will be two completely different teams that are put out by Mr Silva, which makes my job much harder.
However, beyond making my life slightly more awkward than it needs to be, it is actually an interesting format for a friendly cup.
It gives managers a chance to play two different squads to boost fitness and also gives the players in question a feeling of a real game situation with 30 minute halves each way.
With still minimal additions to the squad in place, Marco Silva is working largely on what he had last season plus one back-up goalkeeper and Fabian Delph. No offence to either player, but that will not improve our chances of taking on the top six.
So we will need to see sertious addition to the squad from here on in. But for now, here are the two teams I imagine we will see today. I doubt anyone will be playing both games.
