Everton’s Seamus Coleman has praised the impact that summer signing Andre Gomes has made since joining the Toffees on a season-long loan deal, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Gomes only made his debut for the Toffees last month against Crystal Palace after joining the Merseyside club on transfer deadline day from the La Liga giants but has quickly become a fans favourite.
After being hampered by a hamstring injury since sealing his move Gomes has been the star of the show for Everton in recent weeks, with team-mate Coleman now moving to praise the 25-year-old.
The clubs he has played for speak for themselves.
I know he had an injury when he came but as soon as he got up to speed you could see the quality he has.
It is players like that that make everybody else’s jobs a little bit easier as well. When you get the ball in the right-back position, for example, you know you can give him the ball with the man on his back. He will turn out or play a one-two with you and you have that confidence to give him the ball in tight situations.
He really is a top player and I have touched on it a few times he is a great lad as well. The manager is not only signing good players, but really good lads.
Coleman progressed to say that he believes Gomes has also had a positive impact on his own personal game.
One of the things I have needed to start doing again is get as forward as much as I can.
I took a lot of responsibility in the last few months and maybe last season on timing those runs and always thinking of the team first. I still do, but sometimes I would look and think, ‘is the back door open?’ when you would normally just go and have lads to cover for you.
I am getting a bit more confidence to bomb on a bit more, obviously I didn’t get forward much against Cardiff but it was probably just one pass from being slipped in all the time.
Andre knows football. One of the things the manager always talks about is offensive balance and if someone is caught up the pitch we always have one more player back than the opposition. It has been good.
