A change to 4-4-2 in an away match signalled that the end was nigh before the game even kicked off. Everton don’t do two strikers away from home, full stop. And when the game kicked off, it was normality resumed as Dominic Calvert-Lewin was dragged out to the left.
However, there was one interesting decision that definitely caught my eye. Gylfi Sigurdsson was played in his actual position. That was incredible to see, a number 10 we signed from Swansea actually playing number 10.
Madness, I tell you.
But we started ok as it was very much an end-to-end game all around. Burnley had some chances in the opening exchanges, Cenk Tosun got off the mark after a pinpoint flick on from Seamus Coleman and Sigurdsson bossed the midfield, all the while Jordn Pickford was keeping us in yet another game.
We went 1-0 up and there was a real emphasis on the fact that Burnley had never won a game after going 1-0 down, so that was very reassuring to hear as a supporter of a team who adores breaking the wrong records.
I’m not even going to make the ‘Everton’d it’ joke because it writes itself, I’ll just stick with my apathy and try to fast forward to June.
So, just another usual Saturday’s proceedings. Here are my Everton ratings…
