An Oumar Niasse goal would’ve been a poetically beautiful way to round out Ronald Koeman’s Everton reign, but Everton even failed at that.
The eerie silence, interrupted by choruses of ‘Koeman Out’ after the final whistle said much more than I ever could about today’s proceedings. It was a cathartic silence in a way, almost filled with relief that surely, Ronald Koeman cannot come to Finch Farm on Monday for anything beyond collecting his belongings. The final acts of the game preceding that also fit into the same attitude, as when the referee added 5 extra minutes, there was laughter. When Dominic Calvert-Lewin was withdrawn from the pitch, there was outrage. When Arsenal scored the fifth, there was resignation.
I don’t think I can say much more about Everton’s display out there, so I’ll leave you with an appraisal on the officiating.
Being a referee is a thankless job, No doubt about it. However they don’t seem to help themselves. There was 8 decisions that I saw the referee get wrong today, that is, from my omniscient viewpoint, and two of those being far more costly than the others. Idrissa Gueye didn’t commit a foul today.
And Idrissa Gueye was sent off.
Anyway, I’ll give some scores out and say my farewell to Ronald Koeman. You won’t be missed.
