There’s not too much I can say on that game, to be frank, at least the last 20 minutes of it.
So instead, I’ll criticise the hell out of the other 75 minutes because it was absolute garbage!
Ronald Koeman’s system has failed, there’s no doubt about that anymore. The game went by as all of our attacking threat was bunched up within about four metres of each other in the middle of the park, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin was left isolated as Romelu Lukaku was last season. There was no width, so all Bournemouth had to do was watch Cuco Martina’s crosses and get them out and that’s the only plan we had.
The second half gave Bournemouth a goal early on, and even after the goal, we sat back and produced nothing. Goodison was brutal after that goal, and Koeman was about to be thrown to the wolves.
Then he made a substitution, and that’s where our story starts…
