Enough is enough, and after a season of mediocrity followed by an early start of absolute drivel, Ronald Koeman is walking the plank, if he’s not past the point of no return already.
He needs to throw out everything and admit that his system is a calamitous error. A better display against Manchester United barely registers as credit, as we still came away with nothing.
We created more chances, but that is cancelled out by the amount of chances we gifted to United. We had some shots, but that is cancelled out by the blunt fact that our shots were weak.
So, we’re presented with a perfect opportunity to do put things right. Sunderland are probably going to beat us, so it’s a chance to experiment with the players who should be in the team but aren’t due to immense stubbornness.
Koeman’s signings thus far have been mega-money mistakes bar two. His system has cost us any chance at achieving anything more than the same old season already, and his ego is preventing the growth of players like Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny, David Henen and AdemolamLookman.
Things need to change quickly or Koeman will be out of the club and will probably be regarded as more of a failure than Martinez.
With all of that said, here’s the XI I think he should pick for the Sunderland game:
