It’s been a tough week, with an away trip to Croatia being sandwiched between visits to two of last season’s top three in just seven days. Such a hectic schedule usually leaves a number of players overly-fatigued, or produces personnel issues with slight knocks shaping squad availability. That said, it wasn’t a good day for Everton. Performance levels weren’t high, lacklustre individual showings flattered an already impressive Chelsea and it just wasn’t good enough, especially not against a top team.
Everton started the game half asleep, and very much remained that way until the last ten, but by then it was too little too late. Two first half goals were enough to sink the Toffees, with Cesc Fàbregas smartly slotting for the opener, and Álvaro Morata doubling the home sides lead shortly before half-time.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the pick of the bunch for Everton, despite only coming on after the hour mark, with many others seemingly stuck in the blocks.
Ronald Koeman will now certainly have food for thought going into the final stretches of the transfer window. Without further ado though, here are the Everton player ratings for the game.
