Well that was an eventful one wasn’t it?
Everton beat Croatian side Hajduk Split 2-0 at Goodison Park to take a strong advantage into the away leg. However, the real talking point was when the away side’s fans took it upon themselves to have a riot moments after Michael Keane opened the scoring, throwing projectiles and redecorating Goodison in general, including changing the seating plan. Once everything calmed down and play was resumed, Wayne Rooney had a goal disallowed for offside before Idrissa Gueye sealed the win, finishing a great move low into the net.
Everton took their time, eventually growing into the the game, before it died a slow death in the second half as tired legs prevailed.
All in all it was a good night on the pitch for the Blues, with qualification into the Europa League group stage looking fairly assured. Some standout performances from some new blood plus the unveiling of record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson left much to be excited about.
Anyway, here’s my ratings.
