Everton will look to continue their impressive run of recruiting Football League young talent and they are showing interest in Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks, according to the Telegraph.
Brooks, who was named Player of the Tournament in the Toulon Tournament this summer and who scored in the final for winners England, is said to be a summer target for the Toffees.
Brooks looked destined to play for Chesterfield this season, with the Blades planning on sending the 19-year old out on loan as part of the deal that saw the club re-sign Ched Evans.
However, United pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute after hearing of interest from bigger clubs, including Everton.
Despite not having played in the league for the Blades as of yet, Brooks played four times for United last season, in the FA Cup and the EFL Trophy. He also spent two months on loan with Halifax Town where he made five appearances.
Everton have been rather successful with lower league recruiting in recent years, having taken John Stones and Mason Holgate from Barnsley under Moyes and Martínez respectively, and signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ademola Lookman from League One clubs in the last 12 months.
Brooks, who joined United from Manchester City’s Academy in 2014 is sure to be acquainted with Calvert-Lewin, who Everton signed from United last summer, and the club may hope the young English striker can convince Brooks that Everton, over other interested clubs, is the best place for him to continue his development.
