Middlesbrough are set to fight Preston for the signature of Everton winger Aiden McGeady, according to Click Liverpool.
McGeady spent last season on loan at Preston where he scored eight goals in 40 appearances for the club, earning the Champions club’s Player of the Season award.
Everton are willing to offload McGeady this summer as manager Ronald Koeman looks to trim down his squad size.
The 31-year-old only has 12-months left on his contract at Goodison and is said to prefer a permanent move to Deepdale over Middlesbrough.
Howeve,r it is believed that McGeady’s £40,000-a-week wages could prove a stumbling block for Preston as they struggle to meet that figure.
Gary Monk, the new Middlesbrough boss, is also now targeting McGeady as he looks to get his side promoted straight back to the Premier League.
McGeady has made 43 appearances for Everton since joining from Russian side Spartak Moscow in January 2014, but he has struggled for form under both Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman.
