Everton could be set to miss out on PSV fullback Santiago Arias, but still harbour an outsiders chance, according to the Daily Star.
Arias, the Colombian right-sided defender, said earlier this season that he was ready to begin a new challenge, with his agent trying to source him a new club in either Germany, Spain or England.
Reported earlier today, the Star claimed that Swansea appear to be the current frontrunners for Arias’ signature, with a £12million fee being bandied around for the 25-year old.
Swansea, it is claimed, have already held talks with the player, who is reportedly keen on a move to South Wales.
Arias highlighted earlier this season that the “sufficient prospect of playing time” would heavily factor in his next career move, something he is likely to get at Swansea.
Tottenham and West Ham have also been linked with the fullback, but with the latter recently signing Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer from Manchester City and the former currently well-stocked in that department, both clubs seem unlikely to make a move.
Everton have been heavily linked with a move for free agent Cuco Martina who last played for Southampton, so that could rule them out too, although Koeman may elect to recruit a player with more pedigree in Arias ahead of a busy campaign that will include European football.
The Guardian also claims that Swansea could opt for a cheaper option in Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom if a move for Arias isn’t plausible.
