Barcelona are currently scouting Europe for the successor to Luis Enrique, who earlier in the season announce his intentions to step down from his post as manager of the Catalan giants.
Ronald Koeman’s name has subsequently been linked with the notoriously difficult job of delivering success at the Camp Not, due to his links to the club as a former player during the 1990’s.
Sport.es report that a possible move from Merseyside to Barcelona is unlikely after reports of a €8 million release clause in his contract – which Barcelona are unwilling to pay.
Other candidates for the job include former Barcelona B manager Eusebio Sancristan, who is currently in charge at Real Sociedad and RB Salzburg’s Óscar García Junyent. Whilst
Whilst Sancristan has links to the club, RB Salzburg’s Spanish manager Óscar García Junyent is familiar with the play style of Barcelona having implemented it in Austria with Salzburg.
Both managers would also have far lower release clauses, and as a result, Koeman’s move is in doubt, much to the relief of the Everton faithful, who have seen their side push for European football this season under the Dutchman’s stewardship.
Koeman has also managed to integrate a handful of youth talent into an ageing Everton side, with the likes of Tom Davies, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, to name just a few of the young English players on display at Goodison Park this season.
