The Merseyside Derby is coming up this weekend if you haven’t heard. It’s going to be a miserable game, to get that out of the way right now.
We haven’t won at Anfield since 1999 and it’s probably going to continue. Séamus Coleman is injured, Yannick Bolasie is injured, Morgan Schneiderlin is injured, James McCarthy is injured.
You get the idea. We struggle to beat, or even contest against Liverpool on a good day, and one where many of our key players are injured is going to be catastrophic.
This is a harking back to the Martinez era to me, for I’ve been mostly positive under Ronald Koeman because optimism has been allowed and encouraged, where under the Spaniard it was torturous. It was hope being killed week after week and eventually, even that can become comfortable once you’re used to it.
Anyway, that’s a miserable tangent to go down. We’re doing the ‘Best of the Best’ on Merseyside today in preparation for Saturday’s game.
A Combined XI.
