With the International break bringing March to a close, Evertonian’s heads have been turned to matters off the pitch, with the much anticipated announcement of the club’s intention to build a new £300million stadium on Bramley Moore dock causing a great deal of excitement.
Since Farhad Moshiri’s arrival at the club just over a year ago, a shift in the ambition of Everton Football Club has become apparent. The Iranian has overseen the introduction of a footballing icon in the dugout in Ronald Koeman, a Premier League winning Director of Football in Steve Walsh, new signings on the pitch, sponsorship of the now-named USM Finch Farm training complex and now, with the intent of building a new state-of-the-art stadium, it is clear that the seeds to breaking the Premier League’s elite have been planted.
While Everton’s long term ambitions seem to be coming together nicely, what about the short term? Could the Toffees even defy the odds and squeeze into the top 4 this season? Probably not, it would seem, after a 3-2 defeat at White Hart Lane early in March, a game in which Tottenham proved they were a level above in quality. However, with back to back home routs of West Brom and Hull City respectively, Everton sit just six points behind the Champions League places.
