Olympique Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal explains why he decided against joining The Toffees during the summer.
It’s understood Everton had submitted an offer for Ghezzal, however, he believes Lyon’s project is a more attractive proposition.
The Algerian international impressed in Ligue 1 last season scoring eight and assisting eight times as his side came second – only behind runaway winners Paris Saint-Germain.
His performances during the 2015/16 season caught the eyes of Ronald Koeman and director of football Steve Walsh but opted against leaving Lyon.
“We are negotiating (about a new contract) and we are getting closer.” He told African Football.
Despite the lure of Iranian Farhad Moshiri’s money, the 24-year-old explained money wasn’t a factor in moving, contrary to reports during he summer.
“This is not just about money but about sport. I have a coach who trusts me, we have a good group, and I was not going to leave.
“The project of Everton is less attractive than OL’s.”
After losing out on the French-born Algerian international, Everton turned their attentions to Yannick Bolasie who joined the club for around £25million. Porto’s Yacine Brahimi was also targeted, though a move collapsed late on, on deadline day.
