It has been widely reported that Everton are after a new starting goalkeeper, with current goalkeepers Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg both considered to not be of the required quality, even with the latter’s impressive start to the season.
I’ve outlined 3 potential Premier League goalkeepers who Everton could look at to fill the position. To analyse their ability, I’ve added some statistics from last season as an aid.
Below, are the statistics for Joel and Stekelenburg to be used as a reference point. In brackets is how they rank out of the 5 goalkeepers mentioned.
Joel Robles
Age: 26
Clean Sheets: 3 (5th)
Goals Conceded per 90 mins: 1.54 (5th)
Danger Zone* Save Percentage: 35% (5th)
Maarten Stekelenburg
Age: 33
Clean Sheets: 6 (=3rd)
Goals Conceded per 90 mins: 1.12 (2nd)
Danger Zone Save Percentage: 36% (4th)
*The ‘Danger Zone’ is the area of a football pitch inside the box, and within the width of the 6-yard box. This is where most shots are taken and are the hardest shots to save.
