James McCarthy is set to leave Everton after manager Ronald Koeman decided that both Idrissa Gueye and Gareth Barry should be preferred in midfield, according to the Daily Mail.
The midfielder started at right-wing back against both Spurs and West Brom but was substituted after only 30 minutes against the Baggies as Koeman looked to shake up the formation.

Sunderland, Celtic, Watford and Aston Villa are all said to be keen to take him on loan.
McCarthy was brought into the club from Wigan after Roberto Martinez was confirmed as taking over from the outbound David Moyes. The Irishman joined the club on deadline day in the summer of 2013 along with Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku, with a fee in the region of £13million.
Since joining James had a brilliant first season marred by the following two. The midfielder was pointed out by fans as one of the worst performers last season as Everton laboured to another 11th placed finish.
Now, with McCarthy set to leave the club the Toffees may look to dip back into the transfer market for a central midfielder, with the club also open to offers for Darron Gibson.
